History Dept.Harness racing began at the Oregon, Ogle county oval around 1868. The last known year of harness racing at this venue was 1991. The racetrack and grandstands were torn down in 1992 and replaced by a subdivision named Fairground Estates.Outlaws Jesse and Frank James stopped by the Ogle County Fair in 1876, to take in a few harness races just days before they left for Minnesota to rob a bank.Gambling was allowed in 1895, but looked down upon and eventually revoked.Abraham Lincoln spoke in Oregon on August 16th, 1856, and the occasion is commerrated by a large stone that says, “Lincoln spoke here—-August 16, 1856.”Notable People.Norene Arnold, All-American Girls Professional Baseball League player.
