Geography Dept.Galena is located in Northwest Illinois along the Galena River, which is one of many tributaries of the Mississippi River. GPS coordinates are: 42° 25' 04.4" N, 90° 24' 55.3" W.The Speed Track was oriented in a West by Northwest alignment. It was bounded by Fields (or Field) Street on the North, the Chicago & North Western Railroad on the South, and by the Galena River on the West and East.The Galena Recreational Park now occupies the land where the Speed Track once stood.Picture Gallery.Racing Results.

History Dept.The Galena Agricultural Society Grounds was organized in 1856, according to the Galena city map from 1893. The first record of trotting races taking place at the Speed Track is 1898 but, it is likely to have started before then. The last known recorded date of racing there is August 14th, 1920.Notable People.With only a population of 3,308 in 2020, Galena has been home to many noteworthy people.
