History Dept. Earlville was known as the horse racing center of northern Illinois
in 1874. At one time, during the nineties, there were three tracks located
here. One track was located about 1/4 mile west of the present Earlville
country Club; another at the north edge of the city, east of Main Street
(according to the LaSalle County plat from 1892 at left,
it was just west of Main Street -- the Editor); and the third about a mile
south of Earlville on the McGary property.
